The Bhakti Center’s cooking classes are based on the Ayurveda tradition, a 5,000-year old practice of holistic medicine with roots in India. Intro classes run for one session and serve as an introduction to Ayurvedic cooking. Every year, more than 26,000 people learn from 1,500 classes in techniques, skills, and tasting at the Institute of Culinary Education. While ICE is famous for training world-class chefs, anyone is welcome to take their hands-on recreational cooking, baking, and wine classes. What started out as a small cooking school has expanded to include a cafe, catering services, and culinary consulting. Haven’s Kitchen teaches not just about technique and ingredients – their classes include instruction on eating mindfully, tips for cooking with seasonal ingredients, and understanding the environmental impact of what you eat.
Julie Sahni Indian Cooking

Chef Julie Sahni’s teaching kitchen looks out over Lower Manhattan from where it’s nestled under the Brooklyn Bridge. Classes are available in two formats: a 2-day Intensive program or a 3-1/2 day Comprehensive program. Since class sizes are limited to three students, you’re guaranteed to get personalized instruction. Offerings include Classic Indian cooking, Ayurvedic Healing, Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-free courses. You’ll visit an Indian grocery to learn how to pick out the best ingredients, and then learn historical and cultural background along with cooking techniques and the proper use of spices.
International Culinary Center

With famous alumni like Bobby Flay, David Chang, and Wylie Dufresne, the International Culinary Center is known for cultivating world-class talent. The New York City campus offers hundreds of classes to the general public, including a French Classics course that teaches you how to make coq au vin, petatou, chocolate souflée, and more. If baking is more your style, try the Macarons & Madelines class and learn how to make delectable French desserts.
The League of Kitchens

The League of Kitchens has a non-traditional but enriching and rewarding take on culinary classes. Immigrants residing in NYC open their home kitchens to a group of 6 New Yorkers, and share their culture and stories while teaching their students techniques and recipes from their home countries. You leave the workshop with a booklet of family recipes, a detailed shopping guide, and an incredibly unique experience. These classes tend to fill up fast, so The League of Kitchens suggests joining their email list or following them on social media to be the first to see when new classes are posted.
Natural Gourmet Institute

The Natural Gourmet Institute offers interdisciplinary culinary education to support physical and spiritual health. With thoughtfully and ethically sourced ingredients, you’ll learn how to make “health-supportive” meals to support Paleo, Vegetarian, and Vegan diets.
